WELCOME TO STRATFORD TOWN GIRLS FC
It's great to finally have our own micro-site so we can share news and information with friends, families, supporters and the many organisations that assist the Club in one way or another.
Like our big "Sisters" the Girls have come a long way in a short time. Our story started in the late 90's when Stratford Ladies decided to start up a Girls section to cater for the growing number of girls that wanted to play football. Despite the interest, regular coaching sessions and the odd small-sided tournament, the Club was never able to attract enough girls of the same age range to start up a team.
All this changed in 2003 - an important year for football fanatical females in and around the Stratford area! Stratford Ladies celebrated 10 years of success by joining up with Stratford Town FC and Stratford Town Girls FC was officially founded too.
In the spring of that year, former Stratford Ladies player Fran Westwood decided it was time Stratford had a proper girls team. Motivated by the frustration of one young friend who was no longer allowed to play in a boys team and encouraged by Bridget Richards at Stratford Ladies, Helen Slatter at the District Council and leading coach Lloyd McGrath, Fran formed Stratford Town Girls FC and that July entered an Under 12 team into the newly established Central Warwickshire Girls Football League.
Fran rounded up all the girls who had previously trained with Stratford, those that attended Lloyd's coaching courses and others to form an initial squad of 20 players. With an old kit from the Ladies side and the offer of subsidised pitch fees, everything was in place to kick-off the season that September.
Today, we have a squad of over 50 girls who play in our three teams: Under 12 Girls, Under 14 Girls and the newly formed Under 16 Girls. Last year our Under 12 Girls were champions of their league! All of our coaches hold FA qualifications and the teams have received tremendous help from sponsors and other supportive organisations.
